A Question For All
My advisor told me that I struck her as the kind of person who could put someone in their place without a problem. How do I take that? Do I say thank you? Do I worry about where that idea came from? Any thoughts?

my first thought is that your advisor used "struck" so it seems to imply that you haven't actually shown that predilection.
for me, i'd think she mean that you were the type of person that was no nonsense, straightforward, and honest, which i don't think is necessarily a bad thing.
