Guys Totally Get Left Out (Shout out to fathers)
I am working on two baby showers for a friend who shall remain nameless. In thinking about the preparations, guys totally get the shaft in this matter. Yes, the woman does carry the child in the womb but hopefully the guy is supporting her during that time and together they will be raising the child. For the fathers who don't do that, well they shouldn't get a shower type event. The rest of the fathers, where is their party? This goes to a whole new issue about male stereotypes in our culture that I will save for perhaps another post.
For all the active fathers out there, I appreciate you. You keep doing your thing. Your party will come eventually, like when the kid(s) turns 18 :-)

I almost mentioned something about this disparity last night. It seems there are women who despair that their husbands aren't more involved with raising and taking care of kids, but yet who still think of these baby-related events as inherently women-only. Hmmm; could there possibly be at least some kind of cause-and-effect going on there?
I'm still not sure what happens at 18 that is party-worthy for fathers...

I need not say that this is always an annoying subject for some of us. I, for one, appreciate those that plan inclusive baby showers (yes, I've been to a number). All in all, going to the hospital and holding the infant for hours is much better than any baby shower (but this is not to excuse socially sanctioned exclusionary practices).

You always find a way to bring in that story along with your outfits being selected as the voyage home outfits (or something like that). I had a feeling you would have a comment for this post :-)
